The other kind of “melted a piston”

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Circular part of the pad was inside the piston when we pulled it apart.

Time to either invest in swapping to S10 knuckles or....maybe just...brake less.

You could race the Boxster instead.

How exactly does that make it that far without being noticed

Nonsense. A Boxster isn’t a honed racing machine like a 1976 Pontiac Sunbird is. Plus it doesn’t have ram air.

Ram air bro.

Even in a race scenario I don’t get it

I’d be embarrassed to post that.

Yeah me either. I was not the person driving when this happened, but apparently he lost all braking very very suddenly.

He had decided to “really lean on the brakes and see what they could do” right before this incident. Which I would include under O.C.’s explanation of “ass hattery” if i’m being honest.

Still, happened with just 15 minutes of racing to go in the whole weekend, and he didn’t crash so i can’t be that mad.

*If it happened by accident.

It’s entirely possible that they just decided to see how far it would go because they were getting upgraded anyway... in fact that’s the only thing that makes sense to me considering that they obviously have the technical proficiency to bodge together their own track car.

Still though.

My mistake, I did not realize the car sported a functional ram air. In that case, remove the brakes. They only slow you down.

Meh, 15 or so hours of racing, shit’s gonna happen. Plus i wasn’t driving when this happened ;)

Speaking from experience, backing plate feels surprisingly like brake pad until you actually come in to the pits.
